Taste of Thai - Authentic Thai

Ithaca Restaurant Review has been on a Thai kick lately. You might not know this but there is a little bit of Thailand right on the Commons - Taste of Thai serves authentic and tasty Thai food. "All Thai food is a blend of 3 flavors: salty, sweet and sour" says Mom Noi, the matriarch of Taste of Thai. These three complex flavors combine effortlessly to make each dish a unique experience. First time eating Thai? No worries, the spice (or heat) level comes in 6 choices (0-5) with 0 being no spice, 3 medium hot, and 5 really hot. We found the 3 to be just right for our mildly aggressive Ithacan palate and portions to be generous and flavorful. We loved the Spice Tray - it can change an entree's experience.



The Food:
  • Pad Thai delicate rice noodles with a hint of sweetness, stir-fried chicken and prawns were moist and plentiful - egg, tofu kan, Chinese chives, and bean sprouts - served with lime, crushed peanuts and fresh bean sprouts
  • Beef Pad See Eew is simply amazing and the best in town - highly recommended: the dish is succulent, moist and bursting with flavors - fresh wide rice noodles stir-fried with egg, Thai broccoli, and special dark soy sauce
  • Chicken Tom Yum soup had lots of veggies and chicken in a sweet, tart, tangy and spicy broth infused with aromatic Thai herbs - produced a pleasant aftertaste



    The Experience:
  • Plate sharing adds to the experience
  • Ask for the spice tray - putting a dab on the side lets you play with the heat
  • Worried about the heat? Order things at a lower spice level and adjust using the spice tray
  • If your food comes with a lime, use it

    The Price:
  • Soups are 3.25-3.95 for a cup, 10-11 for a pot, entrees are $10.95 - $13.50, seafood/fish is 13.50 - $21
  • Most meals are $11 - $13.50
  • Sides are a great deal - a side of noodles is $1.50 and ordering one can transform a meal by letting you create something with the spice try and the various dishes at your table
